« When money can’t buy food and medicines » is a research project coordinated by Prof. Grégoire Mallard (Geneva Graduate Institute), focused on the unintended consequences of sanctions regimes on the trade of essential goods for the populations of targeted countries. In this video, one of the project’s principal members, Dr. Erica Moret, explains why it is important to bring the private sector (beyond banks) into the conversation on fostering humanitarianism, with the aim of reducing over-compliance with sanctions regimes and “de-risking” vital banking and commercial transactions. Started in 2021, the project features interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral expertise.
